Romanian authorities said a drone of Russian origin entered the country’s airspace and crashed into a residential building in the city of Galați near the Ukrainian border.
A woman and a child suffered minor injuries. Two other people were treated at the scene for panic attacks, and around 70 residents were evacuated.
Romania’s Defense Ministry said radar systems had tracked a Russian drone entering the country’s airspace before the impact.
Following the incident, Romania’s president announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Constanța and the expulsion of the consul.
Moscow called claims about Russian drones in Europe unsubstantiated. The origin of the aircraft should therefore be presented as the Romanian authorities’ conclusion rather than as an independently established fact.
