The Anti-Corruption Foundation has published an investigation into the property and spending of the family of Valery Fyodorov, head of the state-run Russian Public Opinion Research Center, or VTsIOM.
FBK examined real estate, cars, jewelry and other expensive possessions belonging to Fyodorov’s wife, Darya Vasilyeva. Investigators estimate the visible property and luxury items alone to be worth hundreds of millions of rubles.
FBK separately analyzed bank transactions involving VTsIOM structures in 2022 and 2023 and reported hundreds of millions of rubles in payments to individual entrepreneurs. Among the recipients, the foundation identified people whose connection to conducting opinion polling was not apparent from publicly available information. FBK raises questions about whether the payments corresponded to actual services but does not present the absence of such services as an established fact.
The investigation also contains sharp political criticism of VTsIOM and accuses the state polling organization of using sociology in the Kremlin’s interests. That is FBK’s assessment and should be distinguished from the documentary and property-related findings of the investigation.
