Britain on June 16 announced 70 new sanctions targeting vessels, companies, and individuals that London links to Russia’s war economy and efforts to circumvent international restrictions.
British authorities said the package targets Russia’s “shadow fleet,” procurement chains supplying technology to the defense industry, and financial networks used to evade sanctions.
More than 20 oil tankers were sanctioned. Britain also imposed restrictions on several vessels serving Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 project.
Another part of the package targets a network that London links to Russian military intelligence. Three companies and 10 GRU officers were sanctioned over what British authorities say were efforts to acquire Western technology for the Russian military.
The measures also target suppliers of military equipment from third countries and organizations that, according to the British government, participate in schemes designed to circumvent financial sanctions.
