Moscow’s Tverskoy District Court ordered former Aeroflot CEO Mikhail Poluboyarinov held in pretrial detention in a criminal case involving alleged abuse of office, Mediazona reported.
The detention hearing took place on June 19, but the identity of the defendant had not been made public. On June 23, Mediazona established that the jailed executive was Mikhail Igorevich Poluboyarinov, who headed Russia’s largest airline from 2020 to 2022.
Interfax later confirmed Poluboyarinov’s detention, citing a law enforcement source. At the time, he was reported to be charged under Part 3 of Article 285 of the Russian Criminal Code, abuse of office resulting in grave consequences.
Before joining Aeroflot, Poluboyarinov spent more than a decade at VEB.RF, including as first deputy chairman. After leaving the airline, he took a position at a structure affiliated with Rostec.
At the time his detention became public, investigators had not disclosed the circumstances underlying the criminal case. There was therefore no basis to present alleged links between his prosecution and other criminal investigations or specific VEB.RF transactions as established fact.
