Gasoline prices at some independent filling stations in Russia exceeded 100 rubles per liter for the first time amid the continuing fuel crisis.
Reuters found stations where certain grades of fuel were selling for 120 to 140 rubles per liter.
Independent chains without their own refining capacity were hit particularly hard by rising wholesale prices and shortages.
Major oil companies kept prices significantly lower at their own filling stations, but strong demand led to lines and periodic fuel shortages.
The breach of the 100-ruble mark does not mean that the average gasoline price across Russia reached that level. It refers to individual independent stations that were especially vulnerable to the shortage.
