Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine overnight on July 2, with Kyiv as the main target.
According to Ukrainian authorities and the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, Russian forces used 74 missiles and nearly 500 long-range drones.
The UN later confirmed that at least 30 civilians were killed in Kyiv. Another 104 people were wounded.
That made the attack the deadliest strike on the Ukrainian capital since the start of 2026.
Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged. Rescue operations continued after the attack ended, meaning early reports gave substantially lower casualty figures.
The strike came amid ongoing diplomatic contacts over the war and debate about further deliveries of air and missile defense systems to Ukraine.
