Russia temporarily banned diesel exports through July 31 amid lower fuel production and shortages on the domestic market.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told President Vladimir Putin that several Russian oil refineries had been damaged and that gasoline and diesel output had temporarily declined. The authorities also decided to increase imports of petroleum products to stabilize the domestic market.
Exceptions were provided for certain previously agreed shipments, including supplies to Mongolia.
In the preceding weeks, several Russian regions had reported fuel shortages, rising prices and lines at gas stations. Ukrainian forces, meanwhile, continued striking Russian refineries and other oil infrastructure.
The export ban became one of the clearest economic consequences of damage to Russia’s refining sector since Ukraine expanded its long-range strike campaign.
