Russia’s fuel crisis has affected public transportation in at least 35 regions, according to a count by Important Stories based on reports from regional media.
The publication found that transport operators had raised fares in at least 25 regions.
In another 10 regions, companies had cut routes or reduced the number of services.
Transport operators primarily attributed the changes to rising fuel prices and shortages.
Problems on the fuel market intensified after a series of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries. The federal government had already imposed a temporary ban on diesel exports and announced measures to increase imports of petroleum products.
The effects of damage to Russia’s refining sector were therefore beginning to spread beyond private motorists to regional public transportation.
