Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi as commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replacing Oleksandr Syrskyi.
The 43-year-old Drapatyi previously commanded Ukraine’s Ground Forces and held other senior positions in the military.
Syrskyi had led the Armed Forces since February 2024. His tenure included intense fighting in eastern Ukraine, the rapid development of drone warfare and continuing Russian offensives on several fronts.
Drapatyi’s appointment was the largest shake-up in Ukraine’s military leadership in recent months.
It came amid a broader reshuffle of Ukraine’s government and armed forces.
