U.S. and Ukrainian officials discussed the possibility of mutually halting air strikes as one option for reviving negotiations with Russia, Reuters reported, citing a Ukrainian source.
According to the agency, the discussions involved a preliminary version of a proposal that could later be presented to Moscow.
At the time of publication, Russia had not agreed to such a truce, and no formal joint U.S.-Ukrainian proposal had yet been made.
The discussions came amid continuing Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine and an expanding Ukrainian campaign of strikes against targets inside Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described reports of a possible air truce as premature and said Moscow would assess any proposals according to its own interests.
Reuters therefore reported preliminary consultations between the U.S. and Ukrainian sides, not an agreed ceasefire or a plan that had formally been submitted to Russia.
