Seven people were killed when a drone crashed onto a beach in the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka near Gelendzhik on August 3. According to updated figures from the Krasnodar region’s operational headquarters, four of those killed were children.
A total of 58 people required medical assistance. Twenty-one were hospitalized.
The drone came down on a beach where vacationers were present at the time.
Russian authorities described the incident as the result of a Ukrainian attack. However, the available information does not establish why the drone came down on the beach — whether it was hit by air defenses or electronic-warfare systems, lost control or was itself heading toward the area.
There is also no confirmation that the people on the beach were deliberately targeted.
Authorities initially reported that three children had been killed. On the afternoon of August 4, the Krasnodar regional operational headquarters updated the figure, saying four of the seven people killed were children.
