The British government announced a new package of sanctions against Russia on August 6 targeting the financial sector, oil revenues, and companies linked to Russia’s military-industrial base.
A total of 19 targets were added to the sanctions list. They included six Russian banks, six tankers that British authorities identify as part of Russia’s “shadow fleet,” and four Russian companies importing tantalum and niobium, metals that can also be used in military equipment.
The British government said the new restrictions are intended to make it harder for Russia to generate oil revenues and to disrupt entities supporting its war against Ukraine.
