A court in Pskov on August 17 sentenced Yabloko deputy chairman Lev Shlosberg to 11 years and one month in a general-regime penal colony.
Shlosberg was convicted in cases involving repeated “discrediting” of the Russian military and spreading what authorities called “false information” about the armed forces.
The prosecution cited, among other episodes, Shlosberg’s participation in public debates about the war and his repost of an Echo of Moscow publication featuring the front page of Britain’s Daily Mirror.
The final sentence took into account an earlier punishment imposed on Shlosberg in a case connected to Russia’s “foreign agent” legislation.
Prosecutors had asked the court to sentence him to 12 years and one month in prison.
Shlosberg pleaded not guilty.
