The appeals panel of Russia’s Supreme Court on August 17 upheld the decision canceling the registration of Yabloko’s federal candidate list for the State Duma election.
The court rejected Yabloko’s appeal against the August 10 ruling.
Before and during the hearing, police detained people who had gathered outside the Supreme Court building in Moscow to support the party.
Independent outlets reported slightly different totals. Mediazona counted more than 70 detainees, while later reports from RusNews and Meduza put the number above 85.
Many of those detained were subsequently released from police stations.
The ruling effectively ended Yabloko’s ability to participate in the federal election with its party list.
