Moscow’s Nikulinsky District Court on August 18 fined politician Boris Nadezhdin 10,000 rubles under an administrative statute concerning participation in the activities of an “undesirable” organization.
The case stemmed from an interview Nadezhdin gave to Meduza that was published on July 14. Russian authorities have designated Meduza an “undesirable” organization.
The report was filed under Article 20.33 of Russia’s Administrative Code. The press service of the Moscow courts had announced the administrative case on August 4.
Nadezhdin had planned to run for the State Duma as an independent candidate, but Russia’s Justice Ministry added him to its register of “foreign agents” in July. He was also fined under a statute banning the display of “extremist symbols” over a photograph of Alexey Navalny.
By the time the Meduza interview case was heard, Nadezhdin had already left Russia.
