The amount of gold held in the Bank of Russia’s international reserves fell to 73.2 million troy ounces, or about 2,280 metric tons, by August 1. That was the lowest level since January 2020.
Gold holdings declined by about 0.2 million ounces in July and by 1.6 million ounces, or roughly 50 tons, since the start of 2026. The value of the gold reserves stood at about $292.9 billion at the beginning of August.
Bloomberg noted that the decline comes amid Finance Ministry operations involving gold and foreign currency held by the National Wealth Fund, which the central bank mirrors on the domestic market.
