Courts in Russia’s Sverdlovsk and Kaliningrad regions on August 28 ordered the cancellation of Yabloko’s party-list registrations for elections to the regional legislatures.
In the Sverdlovsk region, the court upheld a lawsuit filed by the Liberal Democratic Party. The complaints included campaign materials posted on Facebook and Instagram, which are blocked in Russia, the use of commercial logos and alleged campaign-finance violations.
In the Kaliningrad region, the lawsuit was filed by the Communists of Russia party.
The rulings had not yet entered into force as of August 28. Yabloko said it would appeal, and until the appeals were considered, the party lists formally remained on the ballots. The decisions also did not affect Yabloko candidates running in single-member districts.
