Ukraine attacked Russian oil refineries at least 21 times in August, more than in any other month of the full-scale war, Bloomberg calculated from public statements by Russia and Ukraine.
According to an estimate by EA Analytics cited by the agency, Russian refineries processed around 3.8 million barrels of crude oil per day in August. The normal summer level is roughly 5.3 million to 5.5 million barrels per day.
Bloomberg said processing volumes had fallen close to their lowest level in more than two decades. Four of Russia’s 10 largest refineries were attacked during the month.
According to a source cited by the agency, gasoline production and deliveries to Russia’s domestic market fell by almost 20% in the first three weeks of August compared with the same period a year earlier, while diesel output dropped by more than 23%.
The number of attacks is Bloomberg’s own count, while the processing figure is an estimate by EA Analytics rather than official Russian government statistics.
