A bill imposing new sanctions on Russia that had previously passed the U.S. Senate is facing growing resistance in the House of Representatives and is unlikely to come to a vote before the November midterm elections, Bloomberg reported.
The bill would allow the U.S. president to impose 100% tariffs on major buyers of Russian oil and gas, as well as countries helping Moscow evade energy sanctions.
According to Bloomberg, lawmakers from both parties oppose parts of the legislation. Some are concerned that it would expand President Donald Trump’s tariff powers and could increase oil and fuel prices.
Several U.S. business groups have also opposed the bill.
