Moscow’s Savyolovsky District Court fined a Skoltech engineer 500,000 rubles in a criminal case over financing extremist activity stemming from a 300-ruble donation to Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation.
Mediazona reported from the courtroom that the transfer was made on August 5, 2021.
The prosecutor had requested a sentence of three and a half years in prison. The prosecution cited “assistance to the special military operation” as one of the mitigating circumstances.
The court instead imposed a fine and ordered the confiscation of the 300 rubles involved in the case.
During questioning, the defendant said he did not remember the circumstances of the transfer, did not follow the Anti-Corruption Foundation’s activities, and did not know that Russian authorities had designated the organization “extremist.”
