U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed a possible reciprocal halt to Russian and Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure during a meeting in New York on September 22.
Reuters reported that no agreement was reached and that Ukraine was unwilling to stop striking Russian energy infrastructure unilaterally.
Zelensky also asked for additional Patriot interceptor missiles and said he was ready for a trilateral meeting involving Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Talks over an energy truce continued later. On October 11, Trump said Russia and Ukraine had supposedly agreed to stop attacks on energy infrastructure, but neither Moscow nor Kyiv initially confirmed such an agreement. After Russian strikes continued, Ukraine said on October 15 that it was resuming attacks on Russian refineries.
