General Alexander Kumanyayev and former Yaroslavl regional FSB chief Maxim Denisov were taken into custody after Sergei Alpatov left his post as head of the Federal Security Service’s Economic Security Service, The Insider reported.
According to the outlet, Alpatov stepped down “for health reasons.” Kumanyayev had been preparing to take charge of one of the economic security service’s key departments before his detention, while Denisov had served only briefly as head of the FSB’s Yaroslavl branch.
The Insider links the developments to a broader struggle within Russia’s security establishment and, citing its sources, examines the possible role of State Council Secretary Alexei Dyumin.
Dyumin’s connection to specific personnel decisions or detentions has not been officially confirmed and remains a conclusion drawn by the investigation.
