Russia’s Communist Party said police detained about 60 people during and after a rally organized by the party in Moscow.
The event marked the anniversary of the October 1993 confrontation in Moscow. Participants also chanted slogans including “Freedom for political prisoners” and “For fair elections.”
The Associated Press confirmed that mass detentions took place, although the figure of roughly 60 detainees was initially provided by the Communist Party itself.
Most of those detained were young participants, according to the party, which demanded their release.
