Ukraine’s long-range strikes systematically target critical and difficult-to-repair components of Russian oil refineries, according to an analysis by The Washington Post.
The newspaper analyzed satellite imagery of damaged facilities and consulted specialists in the refining industry.
According to the Post, targets include primary refining units and other equipment whose loss can shut down or significantly constrain large parts of a refinery.
Repairs are further complicated by Western sanctions that have limited Russia’s access to some specialized equipment and components.
The conclusion that Ukraine is systematically choosing particularly vulnerable technological units is based on The Washington Post’s own analysis.
