A new criminal case against Andrei Yagodintsev, who was previously convicted over false reports about alleged bomb threats targeting residences of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been filed with the Central District Military Court. Mediazona discovered the case in the court database.
Yagodintsev faces four counts of publicly justifying terrorism online and one count of publicly calling for extremist activity.
It remains unclear which specific posts or statements form the basis of the new charges. The court has not yet considered the case on its merits.
In January 2023, Yagodintsev was sentenced to two years in a general-regime penal colony on charges of knowingly making a false report about an act of terrorism.
According to his account, in May 2022 he saw an exchange in YouTube comments discussing an alleged planned attack on presidential residences and decided to report it to the authorities.
Yagodintsev acknowledged that he deliberately exaggerated part of the information so that government officials would take his report more seriously. The court rejected the defense’s explanation.
