Twelve U.S. senators, including six Republicans and six Democrats, have called on President Donald Trump to cancel an agreement allowing Russia to supply diesel fuel to U.S. and global markets.
In their appeal, the senators said giving Moscow greater freedom to sell Russian fuel runs counter to U.S. national security interests and weakens pressure on Russia.
The lawmakers also urged the administration to use sanctions mechanisms authorized by Congress against Russia and countries helping it circumvent restrictions.
The Trump administration has until October 18 to decide whether to impose the measures provided for under the law or exercise its authority to waive them.
