Russia's 1st Western District Military Court sentenced television producer Kapitolina Averina to six years and six months in a general-regime penal colony on charges of publicly calling for terrorism.
Mediazona found that the court record lists three separate episodes in the case.
Current Time's Russian-language service, Sever.Realii, reported that the criminal case was connected to comments Averina made in Telegram chats. The outlet cited, among other messages, a comment calling for Moscow to be bombed.
People who knew Averina told Sever.Realii that she began writing such comments after the death of her partner, Yuri Stratii, who served in the Ukrainian military and was killed in May 2023.
Averina was detained in Ivangorod in February 2026. That same month, Russia's financial intelligence agency Rosfinmonitoring added her to its list of “terrorists and extremists.”
Before her detention, Averina worked on television projects for Channel One, REN TV, Yu and Zvezda, the television channel operated by Russia's Defense Ministry.
