Moscow's Dorogomilovsky District Court ordered RailGallery administrators Denis Yeskov and Anatoly Nagornov held in pretrial detention.
They are accused of unlawfully interfering with critical information infrastructure and causing grave consequences.
The detention orders were issued on October 14. The railway-focused Telegram channel “1520. All About Railways” drew attention to the cases, after which Mediazona verified the information.
RailGallery is a website where users published photographs of railway vehicles. The site became inaccessible after reports of the detentions emerged.
A statement issued in RailGallery's name said the project's editors had no additional information about the circumstances.
Russian law enforcement agencies have also not publicly disclosed what specific actions Yeskov and Nagornov are accused of, what information system they allegedly accessed or what the claimed grave consequences were.
There is therefore currently no basis to link the criminal case directly to the publication of train photographs, the operation of the website itself, Ukraine or the transfer of information to foreign entities.
