Russia’s 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced 59-year-old Domodedovo resident Sergei Yevstigneyev to eight and a half years in prison on charges of financing terrorism.
He is to spend the first two years in prison and the remainder of the sentence in a maximum-security penal colony.
Investigators alleged that between March 2022 and February 2024, Yevstigneyev transferred a total of 11,531 rubles to structures that investigators link to Artpodgotovka.
The court convicted him under Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of Russia’s Criminal Code, which covers financing terrorism.
Yevstigneyev has a Group II disability and is also under continuous medical supervision at a tuberculosis clinic.
The Artpodgotovka movement, which formed around politician Vyacheslav Maltsev, was declared extremist by a Russian court in 2017. In 2021, Russia’s Federal Security Service singled out from among the movement’s participants a separate “community created by Maltsev V.V.” and added it to the list of terrorist organizations.
