Vasily Kuksov, who was convicted in the so-called Network case, was released from Penal Colony No. 16 in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region on October 16. On the morning of October 17, he arrived in Serdobsk in the Penza region and reunited with relatives.
In 2020, Kuksov was sentenced to nine years in prison in the case involving the alleged terrorist organization Network. Other defendants in the case also received lengthy prison terms.
Kuksov told the court that FSB officers beat him after his detention and threatened to cut off one of his fingers. Other defendants in the case also reported torture and pressure by security officers.
The Investigative Committee did not open a criminal case over any of the defendants' allegations of torture.
