A 41-year-old employee of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, Anatolii Hopka, was killed following an airstrike on Sloviansk in Donetsk region on October 17. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported his death, and Interfax-Ukraine also carried the information.
According to the service, Hopka was trapped under the rubble of an apartment building hit by an aerial bomb. He had served in the emergency service for more than 16 years.
Interfax-Ukraine reported that the strike occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m. in a residential neighborhood of Sloviansk. Initial reports said two apartment buildings had been hit. Casualty figures from separate strikes continued to be updated.
On October 18, Vadym Liakh, head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration, reported six deaths and 15 injuries from all attacks on Sloviansk on October 17. That toll covers several attacks over the course of the day, not just the airstrike on the apartment buildings.
