Russian strikes damaged about 10 data centers in Kyiv in September, Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said on October 23. He called for faster creation of cybersecurity teams across government agencies and for infrastructure to be prepared to repel attacks.
In an official Cabinet of Ministers statement, Koretskyi compared the systematic nature of Russian strikes on digital infrastructure to attacks on energy facilities. He also warned of an increase in cyberattacks that, according to Ukrainian authorities, increasingly use artificial intelligence tools.
Heads of executive agencies were instructed to form specialist teams, purchase software and bring it into operation. According to the prime minister, key digital agencies already have some capabilities to counter attacks involving AI, but other institutions need a similar level of readiness.
Data centers support digital services and the storage and processing of information. Damage to them can disrupt government and business operations, but the official statement did not specify how long individual services were interrupted or the extent of damage at each site.
The figure of approximately 10 damaged facilities comes from the Ukrainian government. No complete independent list or technical assessments for each site were available in the material examined. The number 10 therefore should not be presented as independently verified and exact.
