Former Yabloko candidate for the State Duma Dmitry Khorzov faces an administrative case for allegedly “discrediting” the Russian military over his campaign phrase, “I am the only candidate for peace.”
The case was reported by the St. Petersburg outlet Bumaga.
The administrative case reached St. Petersburg’s Moskovsky District Court on October 16.
During the election campaign, Andrei Kazanin, a participant in the war in Ukraine, complained about Khorzov’s slogan, describing it as “discrediting” the military and insulting other candidates.
The territorial election commission did not prohibit Khorzov from using the slogan at the time and forwarded the materials to prosecutors and the Investigative Committee.
Khorzov has not been found guilty by a court. The slogan therefore cannot itself be described as unlawful or as proven “discrediting” of the military.
