Russian authorities have added the Finnish volunteer organisation SUMPY, also known as the Finnish-Ukrainian National Defence Association, to the list of organisations whose activities are deemed “undesirable” in Russia. Mediazona identified the new entry in the official register on October 28.
The organisation provides assistance to Ukrainian service personnel, volunteers and veterans. In Russia, decisions to designate foreign or international organisations as “undesirable” are made by the Prosecutor General's Office, while the Justice Ministry maintains the register. The date the entry was discovered does not necessarily coincide with the date of the original prosecutorial decision.
Russian law prohibits the activities of organisations designated “undesirable” and provides for administrative or criminal penalties for certain forms of cooperation with them. These restrictions also affect people acting within Russia.
