The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld an appeal by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and overturned decisions by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) that had prevented Russian teams from participating in five world championships in 2027. The IIHF said it would comply with the arbitration ruling despite disagreeing with it.
The ruling covers the men's and women's world championships, the men's world junior championship and the boys' and girls' youth championships. The list of competitions was published on the IIHF's official website.
The international federation said it would need to review organizational matters, including tournament formats, schedules and security measures. The practical arrangements for teams' participation have yet to be determined.
