Maksim Kruglov, deputy chairman of Russia’s Yabloko party, has complained about conditions at Yaroslavl’s SIZO-1 detention center, where he was transferred on October 24. The party’s press service disclosed his letter on October 30.
According to Kruglov, hot-water access may be unreliable in a special unit of the facility, some plumbing is defective and basic household supplies are insufficient. He also said he did not know when he would be transferred to a penal colony.
In late June, Kruglov was sentenced to seven years in a general-regime penal colony under paragraph (d) of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of Russia’s Criminal Code over publications about the Russian military. He pleaded not guilty. Rosfinmonitoring placed him on its list of “terrorists and extremists.”
