Mark Ten, the CEO of independent television channel TV Rain (Dozhd), has been sentenced in absentia to five years in a general-regime penal colony, according to the Moscow prosecutor's office. He was convicted under Article 284.1, Part 3, of Russia's Criminal Code, which concerns organizing the activities of an entity designated "undesirable" by Russian authorities.
Russia designated TV Rain "undesirable" in July 2023, while Ten became the channel's CEO in April 2024. The trial proceeded without the defendant present.
