Russia's Federal State Statistics Service, Rosstat, confirmed that its online resources had been targeted by cyberattacks between October 29 and November 1. The agency said it had found no evidence that its databases had been compromised or that legally protected information had been leaked. Hackers, meanwhile, claimed to have stolen approximately 23 terabytes of data, allegedly including information on Russian military casualties. That claim has not been independently substantiated.
Journalists at Kommersant documented the replacement of content on Rosstat's website overnight on November 1. Pages belonging to the federal agency and its regional offices displayed messages in Belarusian and symbols associated with the Cyber Partisans BY and Silent Crow groups. Rosstat's press office said monitoring systems had detected suspicious activity and that specialists were working with law enforcement to determine the circumstances of the attack.
