Swedish company AJ Products will withdraw sponsorship of the 2027 men's Ice Hockey World Championship after a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling opened a route for Russian national teams to return to international competition. The company, which has supported the championship since 1989, said it did not want its brand associated with Russia's participation.
Finland's ice hockey federation said on November 2 that its national teams would not play Russia while the war in Ukraine continued. The following day, the Norwegian Ice Hockey Association announced it would decline a possible match against Russia at the 2027 World Championship in Germany, also citing the safety of players and staff.
On October 30, CAS overturned International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) decisions that had restricted Russian teams from five tournaments in 2027. The IIHF said it would comply with the ruling despite disagreeing with it.
