Khabarovsk regional Culture Minister Dmitry Kuznetsov has canceled an order to cut creative staff at the local Theater for Young Audiences. He said the ministry would review other ways of reducing staffing costs by the end of November, focusing first on vacant posts and administrative positions.
Eight positions had been slated for elimination from January 1, 2027. According to Gubernia, they included artistic director Konstantin Kuchikin, literary department head Anna Shavgarova and stage director Olga Podkorytova, as well as other creative and technical roles. The cuts had been proposed; the eight employees had not already been dismissed.
The theater’s employees had released a video appeal asking officials to preserve their jobs. After discussions with theater management, the minister said actors and other staff directly involved in productions would not be laid off.
