The reported death toll from a strike on Komyshuvakha in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region has risen to 31, acting head of the regional military administration Mykhailo Semykin said on November 3. He said five other people were injured and 48 remained missing. Search and rescue operations were continuing.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces attacked a school building on November 2 as local residents were receiving humanitarian aid. Further strikes followed after people sheltered in a reinforced space. Semykin reported at least nine airstrikes using aerial bombs that caused concrete structures to collapse and started a fire.
Ukraine's emergency services and regional officials said two rescue workers and four police officers were among those killed. Authorities revised the toll repeatedly, initially reporting 24 deaths, then 26 and 29. Semykin gave the later figure of 31 in a television interview on November 3.
Zaporizhzhia regional authorities declared three days of mourning, from November 3 through November 5.
