Authorities in Russia's Kurgan region have opened a new criminal case involving online posts by Artyom Khan, a 45-year-old worker at a factory producing rubber goods. The case was identified in court records on November 4. No date had yet been set for the first hearing.
The new case includes two counts of disseminating what prosecutors describe as knowingly false information about the Russian military and one count involving the desecration of military glory.
Khan was convicted in October in a separate criminal case concerning the online justification of terrorism. He was added to Russia's Rosfinmonitoring register in April and fined 30,000 rubles in June in an administrative case over allegedly "discrediting" the military.
The earlier proceedings were linked in part to Khan's comments about a deceased member of the Wagner private military company. During the administrative hearing, he said he had written the disputed remarks after a difficult work shift and had not intended to insult military personnel.
