The Matryoshka disinformation network circulated fabricated videos and messages alleging that “secret prisons” existed in Ukraine. Researchers at the Bot Blocker project identified more than ten such items.
Some videos imitated the branding of France 24 and Euronews, while other fabrications posed as statements from Human Rights Watch and the United Nations. None of those organizations authored the claims attributed to them.
The posts exploited an incident near Kyiv on November 2, although the circumstances surrounding the presence of military personnel in the house mentioned in the material have not been separately established. The circulation of fabricated reports is not evidence that the detention sites they describe exist.
