Russia’s Central District Military Court sentenced Nikita Bogomolov, a 36-year-old former junior sergeant from Kirov, to 17 years in a high-security penal colony, according to Mediazona, which covered the case. The verdict was delivered on October 28 but became public on November 5. The outlet also reported that the court stripped him of his military rank and a second-class Medal for Courage.
Prosecutors alleged that Bogomolov tried to recruit a former classmate from the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne Command School for the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC), which Russian authorities have designated a terrorist organisation. The charges against him included treason, unauthorised absence from his military unit and terrorism-related offences. Mediazona previously reported from court that prosecutors also cited his exchanges with purported representatives of the Ukrainian side in 2023–2024.
