The State Duma's press office confirmed on November 6 that it plans to cut staff numbers by 15%. Parliamentary faction leaders and committee chairs have been informed. The previous day, RBC reported, citing sources, that reductions were being prepared in both chambers of Russia's Federal Assembly.
RBC's sources put the preliminary reduction in the State Duma's staff at 15–20% and in the Federation Council at 10–15%. They said unfilled positions might be eliminated first. Official confirmation so far concerns only a 15% reduction in the lower house.
RBC also reported assessments for parliamentary aides employed on staff, including computer-based tests on the Constitution and major laws. Its sources said queues for the tests were delaying the registration of some employees.
