Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he hoped the results of the US midterm elections would lead to increased American assistance for his country. He made the remarks in an interview with German broadcaster ZDF that became public on November 4. The Democrats won control of both houses of Congress.
Zelensky linked his hopes to what he sees as the Democrats’ more explicit support for Ukraine and their willingness to strengthen US-European ties. He suggested that greater US military and financial assistance could influence Russian President Vladimir Putin. The new Congress will take office in January 2027; Zelensky did not announce any new US aid decision.
