Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on November 5 that the death toll from a strike on a humanitarian aid distribution site in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region, had reached 43. Rescuers also found alive one person previously reported missing. Searches through the rubble were continuing, Zelensky said.
The strike hit a school building used as a shelter and aid distribution point on November 2. Ukrainian authorities had previously reported 40 dead and 59 missing. On the morning of November 5, police put the toll at 42 and said as many as 33 people could still be trapped beneath the debris. The later figure of 43 comes from Zelensky, not an independent tally by journalists.
Reuters verified footage from the body camera of a police officer killed in the attack. The footage shows events before a second strike on the shelter, where people had gone after being warned of danger. Ukrainian police said the weapons used included a three-ton FAB guided aerial bomb.
Russia's Defence Ministry said it had struck Ukrainian military units near Komyshuvakha and other settlements, claiming that up to 25 Ukrainian service members were killed. Ukrainian authorities describe the victims as civilians.
