Court bailiffs, supported by police and a special unit, completed evictions from six apartments at No. 40 Piskunova Street in Irkutsk on November 6. They forced open five apartments, while one owner moved out voluntarily. According to IrCity's on-the-scene reporting, two of the apartments that were opened were occupied; medical and emergency personnel were also present.
The building had previously been classified as an unauthorised structure and ordered demolished. IrCity reported that it was initially put into operation through a settlement agreement with the city administration, but an official involved in that process was subsequently convicted in a bribery case. The building's cold-water and electricity supplies were disconnected before the evictions.
Residents dispute the terms of relocation and seek compensation for the costs of moving. Alexander Bastrykin, head of Russia's Investigative Committee, ordered a report on the investigation into the case and measures to protect residents' rights.
